The past eight weeks have been challenging and fun! I am smitten with our new bedroom. It is the perfect place to end the day. Between sick kids, holidays, and normal life interruptions I am very proud of myself for finishing, let alone finishing within the challenge’s timeframe. This was my first One Room Challenge to participate in and I know it won’t be the last. The reveals from the other participants are incredible and so inspiring! Be sure to check them out here.

Wallpaper
This was my first time tackling wallpaper by myself. I am so happy I picked the York Wallcovering Egret Damask in sky blue. It was straight match wallpaper which made it much easier to apply by myself. For a full wallpaper tutorial check out my blog post here.
Crown Molding
Crown molding and I have a love/hate relationship. I love when I get it right and my mitered angles are the perfect fit. But when things aren’t going well, then bless your heart if you are anywhere near me. I ended up cutting some sample molding cuts first using some old baseboards and checking my notes I took on inner and outer corners. I finally got it done with a little molding to spare. I had to complete the portions above around the wardrobes.
I’m incredibly proud of myself for not giving up during this step. After I installed all my crown molding, I added wood filler to the brad nail spots. I sanded, touched up paint where it was needed, and caulked all the edges.
Door Pulls
I installed my door pulls using a simple template from a scrap piece of cardboard. I measured and marked the holes on the cardboard. This gave me a simple template to drill holes on my doors always lining up my door handles perfectly.
The Cane Headboard Dupe
Before I decided to even attempt the ORC, I had been swooning over all the cane beds from Pottery Barn and Serena and Lily. I really wanted this look but didn’t want to pay $1,999+ for it. Don’t get me wrong- I believe its important to invest in good quality pieces, but something was telling me I could do this for less. I knew I wanted to splurge on my bed linens so the bed dupe would be the perfect trade off. If you want to know all the details in creating a gorgeous cane headboard dupe for your room, click here. I’m still in awe that this beautiful cane bed was made for under $500 in materials!
Lighting
I loved the idea of wall scones instead of table lamps. It was something different than what we had before. I think these really complimented the bed. I used my laser level on the wall to line up both of the wall scones. Last week I mentioned cord covers, but the black cord doesn’t bother me as much as I thought it might. The cord also doesn’t sit flush against the wall and the cord cover actually drew more attention to it.
I installed a simple flush mount light in our closet. Before we had a light bulb…. yes you read that correctly. A light bulb. In my head, this was a total fire hazard and we never used it. And talk about an eye sore. I found this light on Amazon and the installation couldn’t have been easier.
I also selected and installed this ceiling fan and light. I was waiting to install the wall scones until after the wallpaper went up. I thought it best to leave all the lighting to the last day, Reveal Day, because that would be a simple task, right? I was down to the last minute, frantically trying to install the ceiling fan on Reveal Day. Tom had the flashlight going as I was trying to match up the wires correctly. I ended up giving up and connecting the light to the original wires and not the remote. For Reveal Night the fan and light would only work with both on at the same time. I decided that was good enough for 24 hours. Normally I defer to an electrician, but felt like I was SO CLOSE to figuring this out. The next day I gave it a go. I figured it out! One wire had been out of place.
Glass tops
I decided during this last week to reach out to some local glass companies about glass toppers for my dresser and nightstands. The glass elevates the overall look while protecting them from normal wear and tear. The very first company I contacted is who I decided to use. The Cardinal Glass Company in Beaumont made the process so easy! Their customer service was top notch. I brought in my measurements (they offered to come out to the location) and I had my glass the very next day. I got all three glass pieces with smooth edges for $200. I love the new look!
