Faux wallpaper

One of my favorite things about Pinch Me, I’m Home is meeting new friends! I connected with Denise when shopping at her adorable shop a little less than a year ago. We bonded over our husbands being UT grads and her daughters attended Texas State where I graduated as well. Between the cute clothes and fun jewelry, Gingham and Pearls became a frequent stop.

Denise recently started carrying one of my good friend’s merchandise in the store. Grace Edward Designs has a variety of Grandmillennial style cards, art, and calendars in store and online. One new item Katie just started carrying is gift wrap. Katie’s items are displayed on this shelf here. However, both ladies felt that the shelves needed a little pop! They asked if I could use the new gift wrap on the shelves like wallpaper. I said yes immediately! What a fun new project.

You can easily complete this project at your home. Use my steps as a guide to get a similar look. Here is a picture of the bookshelf before we added the faux wallpaper:

Materials

• Foam Boards
• Heavy weight gift wrap
• double stick tape
• 3m picture hanging strips (I didn’t need, but in case you don’t have a snug fit)

Supplies

• utility knife
• scrap cardboard or foam board (to protect your work surface when cutting)
• measuring tape
• level
• notepad and pencil (for recording measurements)

Steps

1. Measure the back(s) of the area you want to add the faux wallpaper too with a measuring tape. I wrote down the exact measurements.

2. I purchased foam boards based on my measurements. I recommend measuring first and then purchasing materials. This will also help you determine how much gift wrap you need to cover your boards.

3. Use your measurements to cut down the foam boards. I subtracted 1/4 inch total from each width and length. This gave me a great fit without messing up the foam board and gift wrap. For example, the width of each shelf was 22 1/2 inches so I cut the foam board to 22 1/4 inches. Each shelf was slightly different in measurements so I labeled each board with A, B, C, and D so I knew where to put them.

4. Next, look at your gift wrap and decide where you want your pattern to start. I creased the top and bottom of the wrapping paper along the foam board. My foam board was a hair uneven but if you stick to the pattern on the paper you’ll be fine! I used double sided tape to attach the the first piece to the back.

5. My wrapping paper wasn’t wide enough to cover the whole board so I used a second sheet. I lined up the pattern with an overlay and carefully added double sided tape all the way down. Trim off any extra wrapping paper.

6. Lastly, its time to install them! I was pleased to find out I didn’t need to trim any boards or use adhesive. My boards had a snug fit on the inside of each shelf.

The total cost of all the materials for this project was right under $50! Remember to tag @pinchmeimhome with any pictures of your faux wallpaper! Good luck!
