ORC Week 3

Wallpaper #1 is called Egret Damask in Sky Blue by York Wallcoverings. Tom liked the birds a lot on this one, and it was his favorite.

Wallpaper #2 is called Inez Bird Floral in Mist by Ballard Designs. This wallpaper was a touch more delicate and feminine to me.

Both wallpapers were reasonably priced and a straight match for application. I hope this will make the installation process a little bit easier. I’ll be tackling this a little later on in the ORC.

It was a close call on voting, but the wallpaper that won was wallpaper #1 Egret Damask. I ordered 8 rolls and it should be in very soon. Thankfully it was in stock! The total cost for 8 double rolls(one double roll covers 60ft squared) for $890.60 with a 15% off discount.

Closet Recap

I removed the door casing, trim on closet wall, and part of the crown molding where the floor to ceiling wardrobes will be. This was a fairly easy process. Any time you are removing trim, molding, or casing follow these simple steps:

• Score along the top and bottom of molding where the molding meets the wall. You want to cut the caulk along those lines using a utility knife. Scoring is the key to not messing up the wall and molding.
• Carefully use a trim puller like this one and a hammer or mallet to lift the molding away from the wall along the score line.
• Continue to do this until the piece is lifted from the wall.
• If you are planning on reusing the piece, I’d recommend writing a number on the back of the molding piece you removed and write the same number on the wall spot that it belongs. That way you won’t get confused as multiple pieces are taken off.

I’d recommend safety glasses and gloves too.

I used 2x4s and tape to map out the wardrobes along the wall to have a better idea of spacing. I really wanted to use a combination of custom built closet storage and pre-built storage items. The IKEA PAX system is everywhere right now except in the store. No really, so many people have been using this system that its practically sold out everywhere and there are only limited options available. The IKEA PAX wardrobe frames come in 3 different width sizes in the height I want for our space. The options are 19 5/8′, 29 1/2′ and 39 3/8′. I really wanted two mediums and one large in these widths. However, they are completely sold out of all drawers for the larger sizes. But we desperately need more drawer space.

So I decided to opt for a hack within a hack. What does this mean? I purchased two 3 drawer modular dressers from target to place inside an IKEA PAX wardrobe frame and add an additional side storage component of some sort to make it appear custom. I drilled pilot holes at the top and bottom of the dresser on the back panel using my Kreg pocket hole jig and drill. This will make it easier to attach to the wardrobe frames.

The closest IKEA to Beaumont is in Houston (about an hour and fifteen minutes away). I scooped up these items today minus the large 39 3/8′ wardrobe frame because it was out of stock here. Here is a picture of the layout for my wall.
