Spring ORC 24′ Week 1

I am thrilled to dive into another One Room Challenge adventure! This will mark my fourth ORC participation so far, and this Spring, I will be tackling the task of designing a shared bedroom for my two sons, Haines and Keats. It’s their first time rooming together, so I’m on the mission to turn this space into a cool and functional room that perfectly captures both of their personalities. Get ready for a weekly dose of Grandmillennial Design and DIY updates over the next 8 weeks as I document the transformation of this shared bedroom project on the blog. Let the fun begin!

Mood Board

Alright, so my mood board is all about those chill vibes with a color scheme of green and blue, plus a pop of yellow to keeps things interesting! I’m totally obsessed with The Hullabaloo fabric- it’s got this super fun animal print that I’ve been eyeing for ages. I’m thinking of adding an accent pillow or maybe a cool poof in this playful material. And get this, the Santa Monica Ikat green and white wallpaper from the Schumacher and Mark D. Sikes collaborated is going up all over the room- it’s going to be fantastic! I’m planning to mix and match these fabrics for pillows, bedding, rugs, and curtains to bring it all together.

Indeed, you caught a glimpse of a Lego on my design mood board. Knowing how much my boys adore Legos, I want to make a dedicated space to showcase their collection in this room design. I’m really excited about the concept of incorporating antique shelves to not only display their Lego characters and creations but also add a touch of artistic flair to the room.

Goals for Week 1:

Clean out room and closet
Set up boys in Keats’ old room
Skim coat walls for wallpaper installation
Measure room and order wallpaper
Create a mockup of the room with painters tape and canva
Research closet organization ideas and systems
Start looking for beds (either DIY upholster bed or wooden Jenny Lind bed style)
Select a curtain material
Discuss paint color for trim, moulding, doors and plantation shutters (Ceiling too)
