I successfully cleaned out the boys’ room and my living room currently is housing a lot of toys and extra furniture. If you’ve ever decided to complete a full room makeover or renovation, you can just imagine what the space looks like at our house. The boys are snoozing in Keats’ current room which will soon be a guest bedroom and office post One Room Challenge.
Wallpaper and Paint
Guess what? The bedroom walls are all set for some new wallpaper action! I hired out the skim coating process because I’ve learned during past ORCs I despise the dusty process. I ordered 5 rolls of the Santa Monica wallpaper from Schumacher in a lovely green leaf color from Schumacher.
But before we can start putting up the wallpaper, I’ve got to tackle painting the trim. I polled Instagram and Facebook this week over their favorite trim color with the wallpaper. It looks like green is the clear winner for the trim color.
I grabbed 3 different shades of green from Sherwin Williams. As of now, I’m keeping the plantation shutters white. One of the windows faces the front of the house and I like that all the windows facing the street all have the white plantation shutters. I’ll most likely keep the doors in the bedroom white to help balance this out.

I have it narrowed down to two choices! The Softened Green was very pretty but a bit too light for what I wanted. I am debating between Clary Sage and Green Onyx. Both are beautiful muted greens.
Furniture
Guess what I stumbled upon? An awesome Faux Bamboo Fluted Dresser from Scout Designs. I’ve ordered a few items from them for clients recently, so I was thrilled to find something for the boys’ room. Vintage finds are my jam!
I’m thinking of leaving the dresser as is and maybe just giving it a glossy touch-up if needed. I’m planning to place it under the window between the twin beds. It’ll be perfect as a dresser and nightstand combo for the boys. And you know what that means – we’ll definitely need some great lamps! I might even try out a pleated lampshade or add a decorative trim to the shades. Time to get creative!
I’m diving headfirst into the DIY world with an upholstered headboard project for the boys’ room! I’m thinking of going with a navy blue shade, maybe a tad darker than the one in the picture. The shape of the headboard is still a mystery – I’m torn between getting crafty with my jigsaw and cutting a custom shape or just revamping a ready-made headboard.

Closet
I whipped out the measuring tape and did a deep dive into Pinterest for some closet inspo. The boys are in desperate need of extra storage space, so I’m thinking a built-in with drawers and shelves smack dab in the middle will do the trick. And of course, we’ll keep it tidy with two hanging rods on either side of the built-in.
I played around with some painter’s tape to mock up the design and get a feel for the layout. And to add a little pizzazz, I’m planning on installing some peel-and-stick wallpaper on the back of the bookshelf or the closet area.
Fabrics
I’m knee-deep in a fabric wonderland over here! The lovely folks at Kravet sent over a fabulous package chock-full of darling small print fabrics in a rainbow of colors. The possibilities are endless!
I’m dreaming up all the places these fabric samples could work their magic: pillows, bed skirts, headboards, lampshades, ottomans or poufs, and window treatments. Two more shipments are on the way!
Goals for Week 3:
- Make a final decision on trim color and purchase paint.
- Share new product!!!
- Start painting trim
- Purchase dresser for closet
- Prep closet for installation
- Measure and start building bookcase
- Continue finalizing fabrics and place orders if possible
