After a successful first week of the ORC, I was ready to knock out more items on my to do list. I’ve been wrapping up a client project during the first two weeks of the ORC. I’ve tried my best to balance both the past two weeks.
Week 2 Progress:
I cleaned up both rooms (to an extent), and moved some furniture around to get a better idea of the layout. I used two extra dining chairs and place holders until I figure out what furniture I want to add to the room. It’s safe to say a day at an estate sale or Houston resale shop day will be on the schedule soon. I need a statement piece along my main blank wall. I’m envisioning a four door credenza with our framed television above it. Now, finding the perfect one is a different story.
I ordered my Schumacher Performance Velvet material for my dining room chairs. I can’t wait to tackle this project! I ordered the navy grasscloth for the dining room and the Schumacher Hydrangea Drape for the living room. One of my favorite movies is Gone with the Wind. The Schumacher Hydrangea Drape wallpaper made its’ debut in the movie. Talk about timeless! This wallpaper has been a favorite of mine and I knew I wanted to have it somewhere in the house. And bonus: the hubby loves it too.
I scooped an amazing piece from my friend Lindsey. She snagged the piece for $100 at an estate sale but, unfortunately, it didn’t work at her house. When she reached out to me, I was thrilled to take it off her hands. I’m still shocked this was only $100. My plan is to keep it black until the walls are redone. I always like a pop of black in a room.
Box Molding
I’ve been doing my research on the best way to flip my existing wood panels to a box molding design. Here is a picture I shared below on my social. The first picture is my existing paneling in the dining room and the second is a box molding example. After the poll, the second was a clear winner with over 90% of the votes!
On Monday, I’m headed over to my friend Emily’s house to check out some moulding samples her brother pulled for her. He is an incredibly talented contractor. I’ve been researching various ideas on how to use what I have and build off that…literally. I got some great guidance from Gail @TheSouthernGail. I just finished her box molding course and she recommended adding mdf on top of the existing wood panels. She’s a fellow DIYer, antique hunter, Hydrangea Drape lover, and Chi Omega alum. If you aren’t following her, I’d say you’re missing out.
Goals to wrap up Week 2:
- Order rug samples and/or look into some layering options?
- Map and measure out a plan for box molding
- Make shopping list to prep walls for wallpaper-start working on wall prep week 3!
- Stop by local resale shops and keep checking Facebook marketplace for any credenzas, chairs, side table, lamps etc (schedule a Houston antique day)
- Start looking for chandelier options for dining room
