We are officially one week away from our One Room Challenge reveal. This week I really focused on all the details and finishing up the window treatments.
Window Treatments
I was indecisive at the beginning but eventually settled on a design for the windows. I wanted it to be white from the street, and didn’t think white plantation shutters would look right with the green window trim. I found inspiration in a curtain inside a shutter frame design. After some trial and error, I completed one shutter mockup before finishing the rest. I am very pleased with how it turned out.
I used these curtains in white from Amazon. The best part about them is there were two different rod heights you could use at the top and bottom.
I used these rods and installed them on the inside of the frames hidden behind my wood panels I added to the fronts. These are both affiliate links from Amazon.
All the details
I did a TON of organizing. The boys’ dresser and closet is almost ready to go. I ordered a few baskets and storage bins to help everyone stay neat and tidy.
BookShelves
I decided to replace our old bookshelf with acrylic floating bookshelves. I like the idea of rotating books in and out, which I did a lot when teaching. It was always exciting to see new books on the shelves. I bought these acrylic shelves from Amazon. I have additional books stored in ottomans under the bookshelf, which I got from Homegoods. I’ll share pictures once I have them styled.
Rug
The first rug I bought for the room was a bit too small and not cozy enough for the boys. It was great underfoot, but the seagrass material wasn’t inviting for them to sit and play on. I ordered a new rug from Amazon and am very pleased with it. I needed something between 8×10 and 9×12, and this one at 8’6” x 11’6” is the perfect size and the best neutral color.
Beds
My mom and I put together these solid wood twin bed frames, which I highly recommend. They were easy to assemble and look great in person. We ordered Nectar mattresses for the boys with a 40% off coupon during their Memorial Day sale. The next step is to get bedding and headboards. I ordered affordable headboards from Amazon for the shape and price, and fabric from Kravet in their clearance section. I lucked out with navy fabric at $14.95 a yard, and they had just enough for the 12 yards I needed. I still need to recover the headboards, which is the last big project left to do. Most of the bedding will arrive in time for the reveal.
The boys’ great grandmother made a quilt for their dad when he was little, and it has been passed on to them. They love snuggling with it at night. I split the quilt for the two boys with the help of my mom, using heavy duty fusion tape. It was a simple DIY project and turned out pretty cute. I can’t wait to see it on their beds.
Art
I have chosen some golf-related artwork that my husband has collected over the years. The colors match the room beautifully, and both boys enjoy golf. The final placement of the artwork is still undecided.
